The West Midlands Chemistry Teachers' Centre invites applications to take part in this year's Chemistry Quiz.
The winning team will receive the Regional Trophy, a prize of £80 for their school and a book token to the value of £20.00 for each member of their team. The second placed team will receive £50 for their school, and a £10 book token for each team member. Each member of the third and fourth placed team will each receive a £7.50 book token, and each member of the fifth to tenth placed teams will receive a £5 book token.
The first and second rounds of the Quiz will have the same format as in previous years, with rounds of chemistry questions put to individuals or the whole team. The teams are to consist of two Year 10 and two Year 11 students and each school may enter one team. Substitutions may be made, but not during a heat or during the finals.
Ten teams will take part in the Finals Event, the eight winning teams from the second round and the two highest scoring losing teams from the second round.
The Finals will be at King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys, on Tuesday 7 March 2017, beginning at 6.15 pm and finishing around 8.30 pm. The format of the Finals Evening will be the same as 2016 with all teams competing throughout the evening, in a series of team and individual rounds.
Local heats between pairs of schools will be organised on a geographical basis according to the number of applicants and following a draw. The heats will be played in January and February 2017, in the "home" school at a time convenient to both teams. Schools will be notified of their opponents and supplied with a set of rules, a sealed set of questions and scoring information. One teacher will act as questioner, the other as scorer. The results of the heats are to be emailed to the coordinator as soon as possible after the match.
